|
|
I am undertaking a research paper at the University of Brighton (UK) on (ISO) Shipping containers that are being used as accommodation.
I am currently looking for statistics and any research that has already occurred in this topic area and would be grateful of any information which anyone could provide.
My research paper aims to assess what has already been built, the problems associated with their conversion, the methods employed to convert them, their drawbacks and their potential as a building source.
As part of this process I am setting up a network of associated companies, research bodies and specialists for future reference, the finished will be in the public domain and free to use.
If you can assist, have any information, research or contacts which may be of assistance it would be most appreciated.
Thanks John. _________________ www.cityzen.biz/ |

From your paper:
| Quote: | | At what point does a container become not ISO standard and thus not suitable for Intermodal use? (ISO documentation should give this (on Order)) |
My understanding is that as soon as you poke a hole in a given container it no longer adheres to the standard and the ISO plaque must be removed. The standards do establish given strength for meeting the certification, the only way to maintain that certification is to retest the structure. This is no small endeavor. Most modified containers used for housing are no longer certifiable, and I'd be willing to venture that none are in fact certified. _________________ Gregory La Vardera

Does anyone know anyone who has built a container home or studio?
If so could you contact me as I need to find out about how the container is performing, and their problems if any.
Thanks in advance

Well I haven't built one yet... but I have been following this industry since 2001 and have some insights into the process. In fact I recently purchased some land to put a shipping container home on. I have priced a custom converted container (My own design) with several Shipping Container Converters and can share the process down to the light socket. Stop by my site you might find some useful info. _________________ ShipConner

"I think this must be an example of incorrect weight distribution, bad parking, woman captain, or some really BAD weather. Regardless, somebodies tennis shoes aren't going to fit right."
