Here
we drift a little off topic and present a range of prefab or kit structures
that fall outside of the "modernist dwelling" focus of fabprefab.
Why are we including these projects? Certainly our goal is not to convince
people to swap from buying a Miesian pavilion to buying a Yurt.
However these projects employ prefabrication methodologies to varying
degrees and many have been commercially available for decades. Vendors
have developed successful business models by selling kit/DIY/prefab dwellings
to groups who have interests outside of the mainstream. Maybe some useful
lessons can be learned from their experiences. The
list is not intended to be exhaustive in scale - merely representational
of the scope of products available. Some structures resemble "traditional"
domestic architecture while others are somewhat more radical in form (and
yes we probably have too many Yurt listings...).
Icosa
Village Pods
After
much deliberating we have decided that The Pod should not be featured
in the fablist because it is not designed to be a permanent structure.
Icosa Village
Pods do not face some of the building code constraints
that other permanent structures do. We're not questioning their Modernist
credentials.
We feel that The
Icosa Village Pods are unique enough to warrant their own space here on
the otherfab page.
The web site offers extensive product information.

Little
House
This project was another challenge for us to
place at fabprefab. After deliberating, we have chosen otherfab as the
home because
a) we feel it might be too small to be called a dwelling b) we're just
not sure about that front door.
